Mission The Railway System Engineer is responsible for designing, integrating, and optimizing railway systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role involves system-level thinking, covering rolling stock, signaling, infrastructure, power supply, and communication systems. Key Accountabilities Defining and managing railway system requirements, system architecture, interaction between subsystems (rolling stock, signaling, tracks, power supply). Selecting appropriate technologies and configurations for new rail projects. Ensuring interoperability between different railway subsystems, interfaces between rolling stock, signaling, and infrastructure. Validating system compatibility across national and international railway networks (e.g., ERTMS, CBTC, PTC). Enhancing railway system efficiency in terms of capacity, energy consumption, and operational reliability. Ensuring railway systems adhere to the performance and characteristics required by the project requirements, standards, laws, etc. Defining and monitoring the execution of the V&V plan. Managing railway system upgrades and modernization projects. Supporting asset management and maintenance planning to maximize system longevity. Implementing IoT, AI, and Big Data solutions for predictive maintenance and automation. Working with Digital Twin, Remote Monitoring, and Smart Signaling technologies. Interface management between hardware, software, and infrastructure. Managing mixed traffic operations (High-speed, freight, commuter trains). Railway Standards & Regulations: CENELEC Standards: EN 50126 (RAMS), EN 50128 (Software), EN 50129 (Safety) ETCS/ERTMS (European Train Control System) IEC 62290 (Urban Rail Control Systems) UIC, AAR, and FRA Regulations (for different railway regions) Modeling & Simulation Tools: Systems Engineering: DOORS, Enterprise Architect Failure & Safety Analysis: ReliaSoft, FMECA, FTA Tools Electrical & Mechanical Design: MATLAB, Simulink, CATIA Project Management & Lifecycle Management: Working with V-Model, Agile, or Waterfall methodologies. Managing large-scale railway system deployment projects.
