Data Scientist (remote Based, Italy, or anywhere in Europe, Africa and Middle East)

Job Description

Role Purpose Lead data exploration and analytics initiatives by connecting and analyzing diverse data sources (trials, imagery, sensors, drones, satellites) to extract valuable insights. Own end-to-end data analytics processes including extraction, processing, analysis, reporting, modeling, deployment, and visualization. Develop and deploy automated data processing pipelines to streamline analysis workflows across multiple data sources. Apply predictive analytics, machine learning, and AI techniques to create innovative solutions that drive business value. Collaborate cross-functionally with global and regional stakeholders to deliver cost-effective, stable, and high-performance data science solutions aligned with business needs. Stay current with emerging data analytics and ML technologies, implementing new methodologies to enhance existing processes. Foster a culture of innovation and creativity while enabling data-driven decision-making through advanced predictive modeling solutions. Accountabilities Maintain and enforce data science best practices while collaborating with Product, Biology, Digital, Data Quality teams on statistical, data science, digital, and ML projects. Drive continuous improvement of Data Science methods through regional and global team coordination, especially in transitioning to big-data agricultural applications. Create comprehensive documentation and deliver training materials/courses for new tools and data projects to end users when needed. Provide technical support and expertise in Data Analytics, Predictive Modeling, Data Science, Machine Learning, and AI across European, Regional, and Global teams. Transform stakeholder requirements into actionable solutions through use cases, test cases, and iterative development of algorithms and tools. Develop and validate features by consolidating internal/external databases and working closely with stakeholders. Maintain technical excellence through continuous learning in Data Science, Deep Learning, ML engineering, and AI, collaborating with MLOps, Product, and Dev teams to deliver business impact. Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, Education & Experience Ph.D. in statistics, applied mathematics, Data Science, Machine Learning, computer sciences, physics, or natural sciences (e.g., biology, chemistry, agronomy). Deep expertise in data analytics applied to biology, agronomy, and crop protection, with strong proficiency in Python programming and package development. Comprehensive knowledge of Big Data technologies, cloud ecosystems, database query languages (SQL), and experience with version control systems. Proven expertise in Machine/Deep Learning algorithms, including model development, deployment, and monitoring. Experience in building and deploying data pipelines. Proficiency in BI tools (Power BI, Spotfire, Tableau, Qlik Sense), with emphasis on Power BI. Ability to extract meaningful insights from complex, noisy data while maintaining high accuracy standards. Strong communication skills in English and experience working effectively in diverse international teams. Self-driven with strong problem-solving skills, autonomy, and initiative, maintaining an agile, stakeholder-oriented mindset. Additional Information Some travel mostly within Europe. Advanced English required; knowledge of other European languages is a plus. Preferred candidate location: Italy, but applications from all over Europe, Africa, and the Middle East are accepted, preferably within 2 hours of GMT2.
