Director, Infection Prevention

Directs, plans, organizes, and evaluates infection prevention and control activities in a tertiary hospital setting. Job Responsibilities Leads the Infection Prevention team by communicating with staff, developing their skills, and building consensus for programs and goals that support the organization. Develops and communicates a short-term strategic vision for infection prevention. Implements hospital infection prevention goals, policies, and procedures, ensuring compliance with standards; manages department budget, salaries, and resources. Oversees infection surveillance and risk assessments, ensuring timely identification and mitigation of infection risks. Investigates infections, clusters, and exposures to identify sources and implement risk reduction strategies. Reports operational performance, justifications, and corrective actions to hospital and system leadership, as well as regulatory agencies. Manages infection prevention training programs covering standards of care, sterilization, hand hygiene, and equipment management. Ensures adequate staffing and compliance with regulations; participates in accreditation reviews. Builds relationships across departments to optimize patient care and compliance. Partners with Human Resources to promote vaccination and exposure interventions; manages records and information systems. Performs other related duties as required, all considered essential under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Job Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology, Medical Technology, Public Health, Nursing, or related field required. Current RN license in New York State preferred. Certification by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) required, with specialized certifications as needed. 8-12 years of relevant experience required. 7 years of leadership or management experience required.
