Job Description
R&D Process Development Chemist - Italy (Mortara - PV) Process Development Team serves as a bridge between R&D and Operations, aiming to study, test, and develop processes for the safe and efficient scale-up of new products, ensuring consistent and optimized operations. We seek an enthusiastic and passionate industrial chemist ready to act as a change agent, introducing and improving workflows and procedures. The ideal candidate will work on challenging projects related to chemistry and processability, from kilo-lab to manufacturing scale. Responsibilities include: Managing the scale-up of new synthesis processes, transforming laboratory techniques into production-like processes, and identifying suitable operating procedures, equipment, and pilot plant configurations for smooth, safe, and rapid scale-up. Collaborating with R&D Chemists and the Production Team to develop scalable chemical processes, identify critical processing steps, and support the conceptual design of new investment projects, while working closely with safety teams to ensure safe transfer and operation of chemical processes. Building strong relationships with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders to supply representative and consistent samples for market growth, support industrialization projects, and prepare technology transfer documentation. Headquartered in the Netherlands, with multiple global locations, including Italy, where this position is based in Mortara. The role reports directly to the EMEA R&D Process Development Manager. Ideal candidate profile: Experienced Industrial Chemist with a proven track record in fine chemicals scale-up from bench to manufacturing. Technically driven with strong problem-solving skills, curiosity about chemistry and processes. Good understanding of organic chemistry, laboratory techniques, and process physics, with strong data analysis skills. Knowledge of new technologies, literature review, and patent searches to propose process improvements. Flexible and dynamic, capable of working independently and in teams, with the ability to support product launches from feasibility to industrialization. Proficient in Italian and English.
