Historic Environment Scotland (HES) is seeking candidates for a new role within the Information Management Team. About the Role As our Information Manager – Freedom of Information, you’ll be the organisation’s lead expert on Freedom of Information (FoI) and Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) legislation, helping HES meet its obligations under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 and the Environmental Information Regulations (Scotland) 2004. In this role, you will: · Lead and manage HES’s FOI and EIR processes, ensuring timely and compliant responses to requests. · Provide expert advice and guidance to colleagues across the organisation on FOI legislation and good practice. · Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and training materials to support FOI compliance. · Monitor performance and reporting, identifying opportunities for improvement and efficiency. · Work closely with colleagues in Information Management, Legal, and Communications, to ensure a joined-up approach to transparency and public accountability. · Contribute to the wider governance framework for information management, supporting HES’s commitment to openness and responsible information use. About You You’re someone who understands the importance of public access to information and has experience applying FOI legislation in a clear, confident and collaborative manner. You’re comfortable working across teams and enjoy helping others navigate complex requirements. We’re looking for: · A FoI qualification or a full demonstrable working knowledge of UK / Scottish FoI and EIR legislation. · Ability to undertake detailed information gathering, analysis and investigation. · Excellent written and verbal communication skills. · Ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation, statutory codes, and formal guidance to Freedom of Information casework, ensuring compliance and consistency in decision-making. · Ability to handle competing deadlines and prioritise casework. · Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships and be able to influence colleagues to effect positive change. · Excellent IT skills and in particular, Word and Excel.
