About the Role As our Information Manager – Data Protection, you’ll play a vital role in helping Historic Environment Scotland manage and protect the personal data we hold. You’ll be the go-to expert on data protection legislation, supporting colleagues across the organisation to apply best practices and meet legal obligations. In this role, you will: · Act as the subject matter expert on Data Protection legislation, providing authoritative advice and guidance across Historic Environment Scotland. · Support organisational compliance with the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 as well as related legislation through effective policy implementation and staff engagement. · Promote and embed best practice in data protection across all levels of the organisation, ensuring alignment with HES policies and procedures. · Contribute to the wider governance framework for information management, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. · Engage with colleagues across HES to identify risks, opportunities, and improvements in data handling and protection. · Support compliance with other key legislation and standards, including Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, Environmental Information Regulations (Scotland) 2004 Public Records (Scotland) Act 2011, and ISO22301 for Business Continuity. · Help maximise the value of HES’s rich information assets while ensuring responsible and secure data use. About You You’re someone who’s confident working with data protection and understands how to apply legislation like the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 in a practical, supportive way. You enjoy helping others get things right and are comfortable working across teams to promote good practice. We’re looking for: · A data protection qualification or a full demonstrable working knowledge of UK data protection legislation including the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. · Ability to interpret and apply data protection legislation, including the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, alongside relevant public sector guidance and regulatory frameworks, to ensure compliant and transparent handling of personal data. · Ability to undertake detailed information gathering, analysis and investigation. · Experience of providing solutions with focus on information risk, compliance and governance. · Excellent written and verbal communication skills. · Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships and be able to influence colleagues to effect positive change. · Excellent IT skills and in particular, Word and Excel.
