Job Description

Airworthiness and System Safety Manager Bristol (Hybrid working) Paying up to £75,000 Role Purpose: This role purpose is to be an expert within the Airworthiness and System Safety and Environmental engineering specialisation. The role will develop and implement engineering policy and processes that ensures engineering activity meets statutory and contractual requirements, complies with relevant standards and regulations, and incorporates recognised good practise. Key Accountabilities: System Safety & Environmental Develop, implement and maintain all safety and environmental engineering policies, processes and supporting documentation to ensure governance and compliance Implement and maintain a safety and environmental audit programme across all projects to satisfy the contractual requirements in Def Stan 00-55/6. Oversee the development of project Safety and Environmental artefacts including, Safety and Environmental Management Plans (SEMPs), Hazard Logs, Safety & Environmental Case Reports (SECRs) and any other supporting safety & environmental documentation where necessary to assure customer deliverables to the highest standard Work with project teams to develop and implement statutory and contractual Safety and Environmental requirements for solutions prior to System Requirements Reviews and support project teams to ensure they are always adhered to ensuring the design and manufacture of products are fit for purpose and satisfy the relevant aspects of product qualification and certification. Support project teams to generate and present safety and environmental evidence during project design reviews and audits. Identification of Opportunities for Improvement (OFI) and recommending solutions for incorporation into both the engineering processes and wider business processes. Identify and arrange training (either in-house or through external providers) to ensure all Safety & Environmental engineers remain current and competent in their role, whilst reinforcing a robust Safety culture in line with industry best practice and compliance with all relevant policies and standards. Undertake any additional tasks to ensure the success of the role and support to Business Units and the Engineering Function within ESUK. Fulfil the responsibilities for Airworthiness in a DAOS organization as defined in MAA Regulatory Articles (RAs) 1014 and 5850. Provide airworthiness expertise and support to Air System and related projects that fall outside the scope of the DAOS approval. Knowledge, Skills and Experience System Safety and Environmental The role requires expert knowledge of safety and environmental management in the context of Defence products. The role will require a level of skill with common system safety and environmental tools, techniques and processes. Experience from similar roles in the Defence and/or Aerospace industries is essential and would be enhanced by experience from related roles within the MoD acquisition organisation. Airworthiness Previous holder of formal safety and/or airworthiness delegation. Extensive experience of the design lifecycle, responsibility for design reviews, and independent compliance verification. Detailed working knowledge of defence and aerospace design & development standards
