Job Description

Electrical Design Engineer Location: High Peak, Derbyshire Salary: £55,000 £65,000 (dependent on experience) Working Hours: Monday to Thursday: 08:30 17:00 Friday: 08:30 12:30 Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Electrical Design Engineer with strong expertise in BFD (Block Functional Diagrams) to join our innovative engineering team. This role focuses on designing electrical systems for bespoke overhead crane and lifting solutions used across a variety of industrial applications, including manufacturing, warehousing, and construction sectors. Key Responsibilities: Develop and produce electrical designs, including schematics, layout drawings, cable schedules, and BFDs, for crane control systems. Act as the technical lead on projects, ensuring electrical design meets all operational, safety, and compliance requirements. Collaborate closely with mechanical engineers, project managers, and production teams to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems. Select and specify electrical components such as control panels, drives, PLCs, motors, sensors, and cable management systems. Maintain and improve standard design practices, documentation, and processes. Provide technical support to production and installation teams during the build and commissioning phases. Required Skills & Experience: Proven experience as an Electrical Design Engineer in a manufacturing or industrial engineering environment. Expert-level knowledge of BFDs (Block Functional Diagrams) and their application in control systems. Strong understanding of control panel design, motor control, and safety systems. Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical or similar CAD software for electrical design. Familiarity with relevant UK/EU electrical standards and directives (e.g., BS EN 60204, Machinery Directive). Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills. Desirable: Experience working with crane systems, hoists, or heavy machinery. Knowledge of PLC programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, etc.). Familiarity with 3-phase power distribution and variable speed drives (VSDs).
