Job Description

Minimum Requirements: Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse Post-basic qualification in Operating Theatre Technique Minimum of 5 years operational experience in a theatre environment Scrub experience in Cardiothoracic, Neurosurgery, and/or Ophthalmology (advantageous) Previous experience in a leadership or management role (advantageous) Sound knowledge of legislative, Occupational Health and Safety regulations Valid drivers licence with flexibility to travel and work after hours (own transport required) Willingness to work flexible hours and participate in an after-hours roster Key Responsibilities: Provide both operational and administrative leadership within the theatre Manage and support theatre staff, ensuring effective communication and coordination with surgeons Enforce compliance with hospital policies, labour legislation, and disciplinary procedures Oversee staff planning, recruitment, and selection Resolve daily operational challenges and patient-related concerns Ensure proper stock and equipment management, including usage tracking and ordering Monitor accurate billing for theatre stock Maintain infection control protocols and uphold health and safety standards Conduct regular inspections and audits of the theatre environment Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports Lead ad hoc projects and assist in implementing performance improvement strategies Key Competencies: Strong leadership and mentoring abilities Excellent communication, interpersonal, organisational, and problem-solving skills Proven ability to manage nursing standards, conduct in-service training, and ensure continuous staff development Demonstrated ability to foster professional relationships within a multidisciplinary team High attention to accurate record-keeping and effective stock management Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Kronos System Strong focus on continuous quality improvement initiatives Upholds a professional image and high ethical standards
