Freelance Electrical Design Engineer - Outside IR35 - £450/day - Hybrid (Southampton Office 2-3 Days/Week) We are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to support our projects on a freelance basis, working outside IR35 at a day rate of £450. This is a hybrid role, with 2 to 3 days per week required in our Southampton office. You will play a key role in managing project-specific design deliverables from initial concept through to detailed design, supporting procurement, construction, and commissioning phases. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work across a range of dynamic engineering projects. Key Responsibilities Include (but not limited to): Management of project-specific design deliverables Ensuring compliance with M&E Design QA procedures and internal design standards Interpreting and understanding client requirements from drawings, specifications, and correspondence Liaising with clients, subcontractors, and external design teams Conducting site surveys and feasibility studies Assisting with tender pricing and procurement specifications Reviewing vendor Functional Design Specifications and data/drawings for electrical equipment Preparing detailed electrical designs: SLDs, cable diagrams, load schedules, equipment specs, I/O listings, etc. Performing design calculations and power system modelling (AMTECH) Supporting installation and commissioning teams Managing project-specific internal and external design costs with the Project Manager Producing and managing "As Built" documentation Essential Skills & Experience: Relevant electrical engineering qualifications or demonstrable industry experience Strong background in detailed electrical design and project delivery Proficient in design software including AMTECH (or equivalent) Ability to carry out design risk assessments and develop control philosophies Experienced in working with motor control centres, power distribution, field equipment, and instrumentation Desirable: Chartered Engineer status (CEng) is advantageous but not essential Location: Southampton (2-3 days per week on-site) Contract Type: Freelance (Outside IR35) Rate: £450 per day Start: ASAP / Flexible for the right candidate
