Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for a Substation Planner on a 6 month rolling contract, based in Birmingham This role is outside IR35 Role Summary We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Substation Planner to join our Transmission & Distribution team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in planning and scheduling the construction and upgrade of substations, working closely with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery. Key Responsibilities · Develop, monitor, and update detailed project schedules for substation construction, refurbishment, or upgrade projects. · Coordinate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and procurement teams to gather inputs and align timelines. · Use scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project) to build and maintain project schedules across all phases—design, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning. · Perform critical path and resource analysis to identify schedule risks and develop mitigation plans. · Produce progress reports, S-curves, look-aheads, and forecasting updates for internal and external stakeholders. · Support change control processes and analyse the impact of design or scope changes on project timelines. · Assist in the preparation of delay analysis, extension of time (EOT) claims, and recovery plans. · Monitor contractor performance against baseline schedules and flag potential delays early. · Ensure planning activities align with client specifications, project objectives, and contractual obligations Requirements Essential · HNC/HND or Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field. · Proven experience (3 years) as a Planner within the substation or broader power transmission/distribution sector. · Strong knowledge of Primavera P6 and project scheduling principles. · Understanding of substation construction activities, including civils, primary plant, protection & control, and commissioning. · Familiarity with industry standards and regulations (e.g., National Grid, DNO/TSO frameworks). · Excellent organizational, communication, and reporting skills Desirable · Experience with NEC3/4 contract environments. · Knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM). · Certification in project planning (e.g., PMI-SP, AACE, or similar). · Previous work with utilities, EPC contractors, or major infrastructure projects.
