Assistant Psychologist We are looking for passionate Psychology graduates who want to begin working and training as an Assistant Psychologist. You will be supporting one of our schools in West Sussex by helping children and young people with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs). This is a fantastic opportunity for graduates who want to move into a career in SEND Education. About the role: This role will be supported by clinical supervision in line with regulatory control. The focus of this role will be to inform/improve attendance and engagement at school and feed into the planning of the wider whole school SEND strategy. It’s a fantastic opportunity for psychology graduates to utilise their knowledge and we can match you to your ideal role based on your favourite modules - whether that be related to social work, mental health, counselling or therapy. This role is a peripatetic role - meaning you will be based across the school’s multiple sites in West Sussex and possibly in some mainstream environments. Therefore, the ideal candidate will have to be a driver with access to their own vehicle. Your base will either be their Lancing or Burgess Hill sites and this will be dependent on whichever site is closest to your home address. The role will be a fixed term contract for a year - with the view to extend. About you: Be passionate about supporting the development of children and young adults Have a University degree in Psychology or relevant degree from within the last 2 years Be personable, kind and empathetic Be versatile, willing to learn and develop your skills Be confident, and have a strong sense of behaviour management Have some experience with children, or be passionate about doing so Driver - essential! Key Accountabilities: 1. Use consultation and assessment skills to identify children, young people and families’ needs for further assistance and refer this to the appropriate colleagues 2. Plan, Manage and implement Interventions, such as; Play therapy; CFT; CBT; mindfulness; psychoeducation 3. Support staff/child reflective debriefs 4. Undertake Psychological assessments as necessary 5. Implement Functional behaviour analysis/ Positive behavioural support 6. Oversee the development and use of documents and tools such as; BSPs, Boxall Profiles, Risk Assessments, ABC charts. 7. Assist the teacher with the development and implementation of Individual Education/Behaviour/Support/Mentoring plans 8. Assist in the supervision, training and development of staff 9. Take a lead role in managing and delivering pastoral support to pupils 10. Attend to pupils’ personal needs and provide advice to assist in their social, health & hygiene development 11. Establish productive working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model 12. Provide information and advice to enable pupils to make choices about their own learning/behaviour/attendance 13. Challenge and motivate pupils, promote and reinforce self-esteem 14. Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress, achievement, behaviour, attendance, etc. 15. Support pupils’ access to learning using appropriate strategies, resources, etc. 16. Monitor and evaluate pupils’ responses and progress against action plans through observation and planned recording 17. Provide objective and accurate feedback and reports as required, to other staff on pupils’ achievement, progress and other matters, ensuring the availability of appropriate evidence 18. Manage record keeping systems and processes using Bromcom 19. Take lead role in the development and implementation of appropriate behaviour management strategies 20. Establish constructive relationships with parents/carers, exchanging information, facilitating their support for their child’s attendance, access and learning and supporting home to school and community links 21. Determine the need for, prepare and use specialist equipment, plans and resources to support pupils 26.
