Purpose and Scope: The role is part of the team responsible for US and Canada Record to Report activities (approx. $5B Revenue across 15 legal entities). This team ensures that financial records of all entities within the group are prepared in accordance with all statutory, regulatory and group reporting requirements. Affiliate Controller is mainly responsible for Canada and ensures that there is strong control environment over relevant accounting/finance processes and that relevant controls are performed and evidenced. This position is accountable for the transactional accounting activity performed by a Business Process Outsourcer (BPO). This position will collaborate with the Latin America Controller and the Inventory and Intercompany Lead to deliver financial statements and support financial reporting to the Americas Financial Consolidation and Reporting (FC&R) Group. Responsibilities and Accountabilities: Coordinate the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing process for US and Canada affiliate entities. Support Canada and AGT (Astellas Gene Therapy) with monthly accruals and other financial close responsibilities, accounting matters, and projects as needed. Responsible for legal entity and IP holder financials. Manage, support, and provide guidance to external contractor who is temporary covering the Canada GTN role who is responsible for the GTN MEC accrual process and related reconciliations, JSOX requirements, quarterly reporting, analytics, and analysis. Manage the fixed asset accounting for AGT providing accounting guidance to the business to ensure proper accounting for all fixed asset transactions (i.e. CIP, disposals, transfers). Provides guidance and technical support to the AGT Sr. Manager who works closely with the project managers to properly account for fixed asset transactions including placing assets in service, disposals, and capital project accruals. Support Commercial Finance, Corporate and Global Functions, R&D, IS and other functional groups in financial close responsibilities, accounting matters, and projects as needed Support ERT and Tax on, transfer pricing, financial consolidation, audits, statutory or tax-related matters, and improving control framework Align with RTR Global Process Owner and Regional Process Owner to drive process consistency across in-scope entities. Canada bank details and statements - account reconciliation Financial close process and reporting: Oversee financial close and preparation of accurate financials for in-scope entities, in coordination with internal and BPO operational accounting teams. Ensure process for collecting relevant information and generating journal requests and supporting documentation is in place (e.g., Prepayments, Accruals, Reclassification) Responsible for integrity of financial statements and complying with group reporting requirements Review and sign-off of material, in-scope accounts, reconciliations, and intercompany recharges as appropriate Provide accounting guidance and oversight to business partners on complex transactions. Support Global Process Areas within entity scope (e.g., O2C, P2P, SCM, Fixed Assets and Leases) with local / IFRS and operational accounting and process guidance, including GTN and vendor portal payment processes. Collaborate with Regional teams, Inventory and Intercompany Lead on Finance Master Data framework to support statutory and managerial reporting requirements. Analyze Canada payroll clearing transactions, investigate non-clearing items, and work with HR to provide data to remediate, including the true-up of actual payments for commissions, bonuses, and severance payments, ensuring proper coding to Operating verses non-operating. Analyze Canada cash accounts, investigate non-reconciling items, and work with the appropriate process area (e.g., O2C, P2P, SCM) for data to remediate Analyze and record necessary adjustments to the Canada Allowance for Bad Debts Perform quarterly and semi-annual royalty reporting for the brands, ensuring Canada GTN positions are reasonable and supported by various business factors. Blackline internal audit of account reconciliations, US and Canada. Financial compliance: Ensure adherence to Astellas accounting policy and procedures Ensure business processes and financial controls are operated effectively Ensure Finance Authorization rules are effectively applied across the entities Ensure adherence to Astellas policies relating to healthcare compliance standards and interactions with Healthcare Professionals (HCPs), Healthcare Organizations (HCOs) and Patient Organizations (POs) Embed Compliance Culture, ensuring Integrity in Action is actively applied in all initiatives and proactively address non-compliance Perform impact assessment and implement any changes in IFRS, and provide relevant accounting treatment guidance, develop position papers collaborating with group / regional reporting team, business and external auditors as applicable Statutory, Tax and Audit: Supports audits from internal audit, external auditors and local Tax and Statutory authorities as needed Quarterly and annually external audit reporting requirements (i.e. E&Y PBC) for Canada Responsible for Canada internal and external audit questions and for supporting with any related to AGT Review and approve the JSOX control FIN-55, quarterly review of Blackline balance sheet reconciliations with a strong focus to improve quality and clear aged balances Overview of reports and analysis to support tax and statutory filings Coordinate with Americas tax department to ensure compliance to regulations/ standards around tax related matters Ensure maintenance of supporting evidence of control operation for audit purposes and tax audits. Collaborate with Finance Compliance and Governance teams around audit, control, and related processes and policies Project manage, gather necessary documentation and support statistical financial statement presentation for Canada income tax filing, with further reporting of actual payment of accruals within 179-day period in support of temporary tax differences Gather data, prepare schedules, and submit to various Canadian government authorities (e.g., PMPRB, SHRED and T106) Prepare monthly GST and QST VAT claims for reimbursement, working with Canada KPMG Tax for filings, with further investigation and resolution for amounts not reimbursed. Required Qualifications: Experience with Canada accounting and tax BS/BA in Finance / Accounting ACA / or ACCA / or CPA and / or equivalent accounting qualification English and local language advanced level in speaking and writing 7-10 years of experience in Finance Solid working knowledge of accounting (IFRS/Local GAAP) and internal control standards Experience with SAP S/4 Hana or equivalent ERP system Experience in managing internal teams and teams at BPO to deliver results Experience in Pharma or equivalent regulatory-intensive industry Experienced communication skills with various mgmt. levels Experienced financial analysis skills Experienced teamwork and partnering behaviors Managerial experience Preferred Qualifications: Experience in managing across cultures / geographies to develop teams and deliver results Experienced organisational and project management skills Working Environment This position is based in Mexico City and will require hybrid work.
