Financial Director / Financial Controller

Location: Essex / Hybrid (with travel to London and East Sussex as required) About Us: Labtek Group is a fast-growing multi-company group operating across mechanical & electrical contracting, fire protection, waste management, and manufacturing. With over 60 in-house engineers and a projected group turnover of £15M, we’re on a mission to scale sustainably and profitably. We are now seeking a commercially minded Financial Director or Financial Controller to join our leadership team and support our next phase of growth. The Role: Reporting directly to the Group CEO, you will be responsible for overseeing the group’s financial strategy, compliance, reporting, and control functions. You’ll play a key role in budgeting, cash flow management, group consolidation, and supporting acquisitions and integrations. This is a hands-on role in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment. Key Responsibilities: * Lead and manage all group financial operations, including P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, and forecasting * Own the month-end and year-end processes across all group entities * Develop and monitor budgets, KPIs, and financial plans aligned with group strategy * Manage relationships with external accountants, banks, and funding partners * Lead financial due diligence and integration for acquisitions * Ensure compliance with all statutory and tax obligations * Support board-level decision making with accurate, timely reporting and insight * Implement and refine financial controls and reporting systems Requirements: * Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) * Experience in a similar role (FD, FC, or Head of Finance), ideally within construction, engineering, or multi-entity SMEs * Strong commercial acumen and ability to influence strategic decisions * Hands-on and adaptable, comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-growth business * Proficient with cloud-based accounting systems (Xero preferred) and Excel Desirable: * Experience with M&A, EMI schemes, and group consolidations * Understanding of CIS, R&D tax credits, and HMRC compliance What We Offer: * Competitive salary (DOE) * Performance-based bonuses * Flexible working and hybrid model * The chance to shape and grow the finance function in a thriving entrepreneurial group * Supportive leadership and a fast-moving, no-politics environment
