Role Title: Server and VM Migration Specialist Location: Sheffield, Hybrid (60% office / 40% home - 3 days in the office mandatory) Start Date: 01/09/2025 End Date: 31/12/2025 Rate: £425 per day - PAYE via Umbrella Only We are looking for an individual with strong experience on Server migration, Virtualisation technology, and Infrastructure Engineering, including server/VM migration technical design and planning, VM configuration, infrastructure automation that will contribute to the server/VM migration from the heritage VM infrastructure to a strategic VM infrastructure. Responsibilities: Design the server/VM migration strategy for the VM clusters using different technologies, e.g. RDM/VMDK, F5/AVI, without NSX/with NSX. Design and streamline the technical steps required for server and VM migration, which would cover and need update on network, firewall, IP, OS, VM, tooling, etc, to ensure the application can work fine after migration with least main. May need to make sure of the vendor tool, HSBC tool, and newly developed tool. Collaborate with the cross-functional teams to find out the feasible design and solution which is adhere to the bank standard. Perform clear choice analysis for multiple solutions and provide to senior management for decision making. POC the solution for VM migration. Requirements and skills: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. 5 years of experience in supporting VMware environment and the technologies, including vSphere, vCenter, RDM, VMDK, NSX and SAN. Strong Experience on VM migration, prefer to have experience which is not like to like cluster migration, and migration of 5000 VMs in 2-3 years. Well aware the methodologies and best practice of the server/VM migration, and the requirements on the application dependencies. Experience with development and automation tools (e.g., vRealize Automation, Ansible, git, GitLab, Jenkins…) for deployment and orchestration. Experience with programming languages (e.g. Shell Script, PowerShell, Python). Experience with Operation Systems (e.g. Linux Servers and Windows Servers). Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure. Good knowledge of agile software development principles, practices, and tools (e.g. Scrum, Kanban, Lean, etc.). Knowledge on applications services (e.g. OS, DB, Middleware, Network). Knowledge on tooling services (e.g. DNS, AD, Storage, NAS, Anti-virus). Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamically changing environment
