Mechanical Design Manager – Special Purpose Machinery Location: Cambridgeshire Salary: £60,000–£70,000 Are you an experienced Engineering Manager looking to join a hands-on environment, guiding teams while remaining actively involved in design and development? Platform Recruitment are looking for a hands-on Design Engineering Manager to join a manufacturer of bespoke special purpose machinery and automation systems. You'll play a pivotal role in delivering cutting-edge engineering solutions for advanced industries, managing design projects from concept through to manufacture, and mentoring a small but skilled engineering team. Key Responsibilities: Lead the engineering function, overseeing projects from concept through to production Remain hands-on with 3D CAD design and development work Guide and support junior engineers Translate customer requirements into practical engineering solutions Conduct design reviews Liaise with manufacturing to resolve design and production challenges Act as a key customer contact for technical discussions Key Requirements: Proven experience designing special purpose machinery and automated equipment Proven experience leading or mentoring a team within an engineering environment Strong 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks, Inventor) Experience producing detailed manufacturing drawings and documentation In-depth knowledge of fabrication, machining, and mechanical assembly techniques A practical, hands-on approach with excellent problem-solving skills Strong communication and interpersonal abilities If you're a talented Mechanical Manager ready to take on this leadership role while staying close to the design process, apply now with your updated CV!
