Interim Planning Policy Manager

Starfish Search are supporting a local authority in the South of England to appoint an Interim Planning Policy Manager. This critical leadership role comes at a pivotal time for the organisation, offering the opportunity to strengthen strategic direction, and lead the next phase of plan-making. The council is preparing for a new Local Plan and requires an experienced individual to strengthen engagement and drive forward a clear, strategic vision for planning policy. This is a key appointment, with the successful candidate reporting to the Head of Service and playing a pivotal role in shaping the future direction of the planning function. Key Responsibilities Provide strategic leadership for the development of the Local Plan, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities and community needs Champion a positive team culture and embed collaborative working practices across planning, corporate colleagues, and external stakeholders Build trust and engagement across the organisation and with key partners, including elected members and local communities About You Proven leadership experience in strategic planning policy within a local government setting Strong understanding of the full Local Plan lifecycle and current planning frameworks A credible and collaborative individual, able to influence and engage across professional and political boundaries Comfortable operating in complex environments and providing clarity during periods of transition Please note that due to high application volumes, we regret that we cannot always respond to unsuccessful candidates.
