Job Description

Qualifications, skills and experience: A Doctoral degree in Science or Engineering in fields that are relevant to the work of the cluster and with at least ten years experience in RDI. (Research Development and Innovation) A proven track record of technology commercialisation, business development and senior leadership in a research and technology organisation (RTO). Business Management qualification would be advantageous. Minimum 10 years of experience in business development, fundraising and strategic partnerships. Demonstrated success in securing and managing large-s cale contracts R100M ) Strong networks in public sector, international funding bodies, and private industry. Experience in climate change, energy, water, spatial planning, or cleaner production is highly desirable. Key Responsibilities Strategic Business Development Secure new business and funding across public sector, international funding and private sector. Identify and convert opportunities into long-term, high-value contracts. Position the organization as a preferred partner in climate change, sustainability, energy, water, and related domains. Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships Build and maintain high-level relationships with government departments, global funders, multinationals, and private sector leaders. Represent the organization at national and international forums, driving visibility and influence. Leadership & Organisational Development Lead diverse RD&I teams across multiple domains. Drive human capital development (HCD) and capacity-building initiatives. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and performance. Project & Programme Management Oversee the delivery of complex, multi-disciplinary projects. Ensure financial sustainability and growth through effective contract and programme management. Key Competencies Exceptional stakeholder management and negotiation skills. Strong financial and business acumen. High-level conceptual and strategic thinking. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Proven leadership in multi-disciplinary and diverse teams. Deep understanding of the research-to-market innovation value chain. Preferred Attributes Evidence of revenue generated and business growth achieved. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Conflict resolution and change management capabilities.
