Job Description

Job Title: Respiratory Therapist Profession: Respiratory Therapist Specialty: Not specified Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours (1800-0600) Experience: 1 year of respiratory therapy experience preferred License: Current state Licensure (RLT) in applicable state of employment Certifications: CRT by NBRC, American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Must-Have: Completion of accredited Respiratory Therapy Education Program required Description: Perform respiratory procedures under physician direction in all patient areas. Responsible for patient assessments, care plans, plan implementation, and evaluation and revision of therapy plan as needed. Collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure the most effective and efficient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes. Utilize knowledge of patients' age and cultural diversity in the provision of patient care. Support the organization vision and mission and practice performance improvement techniques to assure the delivery of the most effective patient care. Deliver respiratory care procedures to patients in general, acute, critical care, and emergency areas according to departmental policies and procedures. Perform therapeutic modalities including patient monitoring, medication delivery, ventilation management, expansion therapy, and bronchial hygiene. Conduct diagnostic testing including ABG's, PFT's, EKG's, cardiac assessments, bronchoscopy, and pulse oximetry. Assist in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency care by providing airway maintenance and management, cardiac support, and other assistance as needed. Respond to patient needs in a timely and effective manner. Provide patient and family education and teaching. Transport patients within the hospital or between facilities. Develop care plans from thorough assessment via protocol criteria or directed physician order. Document all patient care activities including evaluations, progress notes, and detailed treatment records per standards of practice and legal requirements. Document ongoing status, interventions, patient response, and outcomes to capture billing charges correctly. Coordinate and communicate effectively with all patients, families, staff, physicians, and others concerning respiratory therapy services. Demonstrate technical and interpersonal problem-solving skills. Determine the proper function of all equipment used and make interventions as needed. Anticipate, recognize, and assist others in identifying patient complications and reactions related to respiratory care. Demonstrate effective time management and proactively prioritize workload. Adapt to rapidly changing technologies, policies, regulations, census, and staffing through priority setting and flexibility. Participate in personal, professional, and program development by attending department in-services and meetings. Assist in training respiratory therapy staff, students, and other personnel. Act as a resource for new staff members and coworkers by sharing information and providing education.
