Head of Science Lewisham, London Start Date: September 2025 Salary: MPS/UPS TLR 1 (Inner London Allowance) Full-Time | Permanent | Mixed Mainstream Secondary School An ambitious and inclusive mixed secondary school in the London Borough of Lewisham is seeking to appoint a dynamic and experienced Head of Science to lead our successful Science department from September 2025. This is a fantastic opportunity for an outstanding teacher and leader who is passionate about science education and committed to raising standards across all key stages. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the strategic direction of the department, promoting excellence in teaching and learning, and driving student achievement. Key Responsibilities: * Provide inspirational leadership and management of the Science department (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics) * Develop and implement a high-quality, aspirational curriculum across KS3–KS5 * Monitor and evaluate teaching and learning to ensure consistently high standards * Lead and support a team of specialist teachers and technicians * Analyse data to inform planning and intervention strategies * Promote STEM opportunities and enrichment both within and beyond the curriculum * Contribute to the wider leadership of the school and work collaboratively as part of the middle leadership team Person Specification: * Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a strong academic background in a science subject * Proven track record of excellent classroom practice and raising student outcomes * Experience in a leadership or management role within a science department * Thorough knowledge of the national curriculum, assessment, and progression in science * Strong leadership, interpersonal, and organisational skills * A commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and the wider school ethos What the school offers! * A supportive and inclusive school environment with a strong sense of community * Enthusiastic and motivated students who are keen to learn * A dedicated and collaborative staff team * Excellent CPD and leadership development opportunities * Modern facilities and well-resourced science laboratories * A school that values innovation, professional growth, and staff wellbeing
