Job Description

Job Purpose To support business decision-making across energy trading operations and marketing and sales by delivering insightful data analysis, market intelligence, and operational support on the energy industry and markets. The Junior Business Analyst will work closely with marketing & sales, trading, logistics, and finance teams to develop new markets and customers, conduct competitor analysis, track product pricing and fuel flows, order processing and delivery, profitability analysis and growth. Key Responsibilities: Conduct market analysis and identify new opportunities for fuel products Collect, analyse, and interpret market pricing data for various products from published sources and market intelligence to inform pricing strategies Assist in preparing and submitting bid responses to commercial and public tenders Track fuel volumes, pricing indices, supplier contracts, and customer accounts. Assist in building dashboards, forecasting tools, and KPI reports using Excel,Power BI, or similar. Support trading teams with real-time market analysis, competitor benchmarking, and margin optimization models. Prepare weekly and monthly reports on trade performance, inventory, and sales trends. Collaborate with logistics and supply chain teams to streamline transport scheduling and inventory reconciliation. Assist with regulatory reporting and licencing requirements (e.g., NERSA, SARS) and ensure data accuracy in audit compliance tasks. Assist with pitch development and delivery Participate in business process mapping, digital tool implementation, and documentation of workflows. Requirements: South African Unemployed youth between the ages of 18 and 34. Must not have participated on the programme before. Bachelors degree in Finance, Economics, Energy Studies, Data Analytics, or related field. Strong skills in Excel (pivot tables, graphing, trendlines) for data manipulation cleaning and analysis; knowledge of PowerPoint and BI tools advantageous. Financial Modelling Skills using Excel advantageous Ability to research and interpret market trends supply demand dynamics and pricing mechanisms Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and a love for working with numbers, market data and pricing trends. Good understanding of the South African energy sector (fuel products, players, and regulations) is a plus. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Soft Skills: Curious, driven, and eager to learn the mechanics of energy markets and trading for different energy products. Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Proactive team player with a problem-solving attitude. Customer focused with a willingness to provide superior service.
