Job Description

Our client is a well-established agricultural commodities brokerage specialising in the trade and transport of maize, sugar beans, and other staple crops. With a growing national footprint, they are expanding their transport function and are looking for a hands-on Fleet Manager to take the lead in developing and running this division. This is a newly created and exciting role for a motivated individual who understands the agricultural sector and is passionate about logistics and optimisation. The successful candidate will be responsible for organising loads and coordinating transportation, currently focusing on managing subcontractors, with the goal of growing the internal fleet over time. You’ll need to think commercially, ensuring loads are scheduled efficiently, trucks are running profitably (including sourcing backloads), and the division is set up for long-term scalability. Key Responsibilities: Coordinate the booking and scheduling of loads nationally Manage subcontractor relationships and allocate loads effectively Ensure timely collection and delivery of agricultural commodities, especially maize and sugar beans Source and negotiate with additional transport providers when needed Track all vehicle movements, optimise routes, and reduce empty trips by sourcing return loads Ensure full compliance with transport and agricultural regulations Collaborate with the trading and operations team to forecast load volumes and align logistics needs Monitor fuel, maintenance, and trip costs for profitability Contribute to the setup of systems, processes, and strategies to grow the fleet and division Take ownership of the division as if it were your own—driving growth, efficiency, and service excellence Requirements: Experience in transport/logistics coordination, preferably within agricultural commodities Knowledge of side tippers and agri-transport operations Strong network of transport subcontractors and the ability to negotiate load rates Commercial mindset with a focus on profit, planning, and efficiency Confident, proactive, and highly organised Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment Skilled in tracking systems, Excel, and general transport platforms A go-getter attitude and willingness to build and grow the division from the ground up Ideal Candidate: Someone who’s been “in the thick of it” in agri-logistics, understands the pressure of harvest season, knows how to get trucks moving, and is ready to build something long-term.
