Job Description

A Junior Accountant supports the accounting department by performing basic accounting tasks. Responsibilities include processing invoices, assisting with financial reporting, reconciling bank statements, maintaining financial records, and supporting month-end and year-end close processes. This role requires attention to detail, proficiency in accounting software, and a basic understanding of accounting principles. Qualifications: Matric / Grade 12 certificate (essential) Diploma or Degree in Accounting / Finance (NQF Level 6 or higher) Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Microsoft Excel (Intermediate to Advanced) Accounting software (e.g. Pastel, Sage, Xero, Automate, Kerridge or dealership management systems) Requirements: 13 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience, preferably in the automotive industry Understanding of vehicle costing, inventory, and parts accounting Experience with bank reconciliations, debtors and creditors, and cashbook entries Strong attention to detail and numerical accuracy Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines Good interpersonal and communication skills Knowledge of VAT, tax submissions, and SARS compliance is advantageous Own transport is a plus (depending on location) Duties & Responsibilities: 1. Financial Transactions & Data Entry Capture daily transactions: sales, expenses, receipts, etc. Post journal entries and update general ledger 2. Accounts Payable & Receivable Process supplier invoices and customer payments Monitor aging reports and follow up on outstanding accounts 3. Bank Reconciliations: Perform daily and monthly reconciliation of all bank accounts 4. Inventory Control: Monitor stock (vehicles, parts, accessories) Assist with monthly stock takes and audits 5. Vehicle Costing & Invoicing: Prepare cost sheets for vehicles sold Issue accurate invoices and credit notes 6. Cashbook Maintenance: Record all cashbook transactions Reconcile dealership cash flow daily 7. Month-End Reporting: Assist in preparing management accounts Support in compiling monthly financial reports 8. Compliance & Admin: Ensure all transactions comply with internal policies File supporting documents for auditing purposes Support with VAT, PAYE, and other statutory submissions Advantages: Experience working with motor industry systems (e.g.,Evolve, CDK, Autoline, or similar) Knowledge of dealership KPIs like gross profit per unit, absorption rate, etc.
