Job Description

Reporting to Toolroom Supervisor Job Purpose To provide operational support by assuming responsibility for the repair, maintenance and improvement of all tooling, jigs, moulds and fixtures to the highest standards of quality and compliance to meet set targets. Key Performance Areas Toolmaking Duties (30%) Maintenance and Production Support (25%) Achieving Quality Standards (20%) Reporting and Administration (5%) Compliance (10%) Cost Control (5%) Customer Service (5%) Toolmaking Duties: Manufactures new tooling and additional spares to support production activity and customer deadlines. Takes ownership of smaller less complex specific tool suite to develop and maintain performance with minimal supervision. Identifies spares requirements and log usage. Supports new project tooling from commissioning stages through to start of production. Assists in tooling buyoffs and trials. Keeps up with current and developing manufacturing and engineering trends regarding tool making and contributes to studies to determine best practices/designs and future trends. Records all relevant data in relation to tooling and record on the Tool Room database Maintenance and Production Support: Performs routine servicing, repairs and maintenance on production line tooling, jigs, moulds and fixtures. Attends to breakdowns, carries out Planned Preventative Maintenance; Root Maintenance services performed on tools and spares within set timeframes. Breakdowns attended to. Planned preventative maintenance carried out. Root cause analysis performed. Engineering level changes and modifications to tools completed within set timeframes. Potential failures and impact on production downtime considered. Testing on tool operation performed. Meeting attendance. Staff training conducted. Cause Analysis; and Engineering level changes to tools and modifications whilst considering potential failures and downtime to production. Tests and confirms electrical and hydraulic/pneumatic operation of tools before returning to production. Attends various meetings and action/communicate instructions. Supports Artisans and Operators and trains staff (Apprentices) within own work group Achieving Quality Standards: Ensures all work and parts produced adheres to high-quality standards and regulations whilst achieving company targets. Contributes to improvement activities to support the achievement of departmental and company objectives. Works within 5S (Sort, Set In Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) methodology to maintain high standards within the workplace. Undertakes special projects as instructed, ensures appropriate tracking mechanisms are in place and reports on progress Reporting & Administration: Identifies and escalates any activity that has the potential to cause harm or damage. Reports breakdown root causes, equipment faults, lost time, accidents and concerns to management. Documents and updates work records Compliance: Operates within controls and procedures in order to ensure the integrity of the company. Ensures risk assessments are available, read and understood for each activity undertaken, reports risk to management within area of responsibility. Promotes compliance with all relevant regulations and procedures to prevent fruitless, wasteful and irregular expenditure. Promotes understanding of environmental issues and ensures all company procedures are understood and followed. Ensures all personal protective equipment always available, correctly used and all associated problems are reported to management. Ensures a safe working environment i.r.o health, safety environmental and quality procedures to achieve company and departmental targets Customer Service: Maintains effective working relationships with employees and customers to render highest quality of services. Identifies and solves problems whilst demonstrating a high level of integrity in line with the company's core values Cost Control: Supports the effective and transparent use of financial and other resources. Limits expenditure, reduces costs and ensures deviations from budgetary limits are reported to direct Manager. Understands and operates within basic cost/budget measures for tooling Minimum Qualifications: Matric (NQF 4) Trade Test: Toolmaker (NQF 5) Minimum Experience: Up to 3 years Technical, Maintenance and Toolmaking experience in a manufacturing environment 3 years minimum experience in use of tool-room machinery (lathes, mills etc.) Technical Competencies: Computer Literacy (Basic MS Office; and SAP, ERP Systems and other job-specific software systems). Knowledge of relevant maintenance practices / designs / methodologies / SOPs. Housekeeping and safety principles
