ENGINEERING UNDERWRITER– CONSTRUCTION & ENGINEERING

Position Overview: As an Engineering Underwriter Construction & Engineering, you will be responsible for evaluating, pricing, and managing risks related to construction projects, plant & equipment, and engineering-related insurance policies. You will assess technical and financial information to make sound underwriting decisions that align with company strategy and profitability targets. Key Responsibilities: Risk Assessment & Underwriting: Analyze and underwrite new and renewal business for construction and engineering risks (including CAR/EAR, Contractors Plant & Machinery, Machinery Breakdown, etc.). Evaluate technical details, project scopes, schedules, and contractor capabilities. Assess risk exposures, recommend terms and pricing, and ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines. Portfolio Management: Maintain and manage a profitable underwriting portfolio aligned with strategic goals. Monitor risk accumulation, loss trends, and market developments. Support the implementation of risk mitigation strategies. Client & Broker Relations: Develop and maintain relationships with brokers, clients, and reinsurance partners. Negotiate terms and provide technical guidance to stakeholders. Deliver responsive and high-quality service throughout the policy lifecycle. Policy & Documentation: Prepare and issue policy documentation, endorsements, and quotations. Ensure accurate recording and compliance with internal systems and regulatory requirements. Market Intelligence & Product Development: Stay updated on construction industry trends, legal and regulatory changes. Collaborate on product development, innovation, and tailored insurance solutions. Requirements: Must Have a Civil Engineering Degree (Bsc) Must have Matric Must be willing to study towards the relevant Regulatory Examination and Insurance qualifications. Must have attention to detail. Must be client focused and very service orientated. Must have good communication skills. Must have good negotiation skills including initiative. Must be a team player. Must have working knowledge of Microsoft WORD and EXCEL. Engineering Insurance Industry knowledge will be an advantage. This person will be office bound at our Office in Cape Town. Skills & Competencies: Strong analytical and technical underwriting skills. Effective negotiation, communication, and relationship-building abilities. Ability to make sound, data-driven decisions under pressure. High attention to detail with strong organizational skills. Proficient in insurance software and Microsoft Office tool
