Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities Key Responsibilities: Plan, design, and manage water infrastructure projects, including bulk pipelines, pump stations, reservoirs, pressure management systems, and reticulation networks. Lead the technical review and approval of engineering designs and feasibility studies for water supply projects. Oversee the implementation of capital works programs and maintenance strategies for municipal water infrastructure. Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., planning, finance) and external stakeholders (e.g., consultants, contractors, government agencies). Conduct hydraulic modeling and network analysis to optimize system performance and identify future needs. Prepare technical reports, project proposals, procurement documents, and council submissions. Ensure compliance with local, provincial/state, and national water regulations, safety standards, and engineering codes. Experience with the NWA and NEMA will be beneficial. Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and technologists. Conduct field inspections, troubleshoot operational issues, and support commissioning of new infrastructure. Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (a relevant Post graduate degree is advantageous). Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng. / Pr.Eng.) with Engineering Council of South Africa. Minimum 5 years of experience in civil engineering, with a strong focus on water distribution and bulk supply systems. Experience working in or with municipalities or water utilities on infrastructure development and service delivery. Strong understanding of hydraulic modeling software, preferably EPANET, iDAS and AutoCAD Civil 3D. Demonstrated project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and contractor supervision. Core Competencies: Technical expertise in water engineering and infrastructure design. Strong project management and contract administration abilities. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Knowledge of water sector regulations and municipal service delivery frameworks. Commitment to sustainable and equitable water resource management. Work Environment: Office-based with regular field work and site visits. Occasional travel to project sites and municipal locations. Valid drivers license required.
