Boiler Operator

Job Description Duties and Responsibilities: Operate and monitor the 20-ton John Thompson water tube boiler and all associated steam system equipment. Conduct pre-startup checks, boiler light-up, shutdowns and emergency response procedures. Maintain optimum pressure, temperature and water levels in accordance with operational standards. Carry out daily, weekly and monthly inspections and log sheet updates. Record boiler operating data (temperatures, pressures, chemical readings, etc.). Perform water quality tests (TDS, pH, phosphate, etc.) and coordinate chemical dosing or water treatment with suppliers. Conduct routine blowdowns and manage condensate return systems. Report and assist in fault finding, repairs and general maintenance. Ensure compliance with all OHSA, SANS and Department of Labour boiler regulations. Liaise with maintenance teams, production personnel and external inspectors.
