Terms of Employment: Regular Full-Time/Non-Exempt/Local 2320 Union Position (NYCLU staff are currently working in a Hybrid model. A number of in-person days will be required)

Location: 125 Broad Street, NY, NY 10004

Salary: $50,000 - $60,000

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

The Research Assistant will work under the direction of the Executive Counsel, unless reassigned based upon organizational needs. The Research Assistant may be required to collaborate with leaders and staff across the NYCLU to ensure that the NYCLU has an integrated approach to address injustice.


ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The tasks will include undertaking research in support of reports, articles, blogs and op­ed pieces and other writings to be drafted by the Executive Counsel and/or other staff on topics relating to civil liberties and civil rights.
  • The research may take the form of examining social science data, interviewing policymakers and individuals impacted by public policies, and observing legislative hearings and judicial proceedings where public policies respecting civil liberties and civil rights may be at issue.
  • The research will be delivered in the form of research memoranda, conversations and oral presentations or drafts of portions of documents and writings to be issued by the Executive Counsel or other NYCLU staff members.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a B.A. degree.
  • This is a hybrid position based in New York.
  • Must have excellent writing, research, analytical and communications skills.
  • Must have some experience that allowed for the development of interview skills.
  • Must have some experience in social science research, at the least as a function of undergraduate coursework.
  • Caseworker experience a plus, particularly if the casework involved youth and family.
  • Fluency in Spanish a plus.
