Assistant Head Guide

Area/Location: Hoedspruit Summary: The Assistant Head Guide plays a key role in delivering exceptional guest experiences through guided safari activities. They support the Head Guide in managing the guiding team, ensuring high safety and interpretive standards, maintaining compliance with relevant regulations, and fostering an enriching and educational environment for both guests and team members. This role requires leadership, strong bush knowledge, and a passion for wildlife and conservation. Qualifications Required: FGASA Level 2 (minimum) OR DEAT Registered OR CATHSSETA accreditation Trails Guide qualification ARH (Advanced Rifle Handling) Valid PDP (Professional Driving Permit) First Aid Level 1 or higher (Valid) Relevant tertiary qualification in guiding or nature conservation (advantageous Experience: Minimum 23 years of guiding experience in a Big 5 reserve Previous experience in a five-star lodge environment Experience in walking safaris and hosting guests Strong track record of mentoring junior guides and contributing to team development Responsibilities: Leading game drives and bush walks with a strong focus on guest experience and safety Assisting the Head Guide in daily operations and team management Providing interpretation of the bushveld ecosystem with enthusiasm and professionalism Hosting guests and ensuring their safari experience is memorable and informative Assisting with guide training, assessments, and continuous skills development Monitoring vehicle and equipment maintenance Maintaining compliance with lodge policies, conservation practices, and legal requirements Supporting conservation initiatives and reserve activities Attributes: Professional, mature, and responsible Well-spoken and presentable Confident and calm leadership style Team player with strong interpersonal skills Passionate about wildlife, conservation, and guest engagement Proactive and solution-oriented Excellent communication and hosting skills Sober habits and strong work ethic Benefits: Accommodation provided Uniforms supplied Meals included while on duty
