About the job Based at Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra, Mallorca, as the Director of Engineering, you will lead all engineering activities, ensuring the physical property, customers, and colleagues are well served. You will participate in the day-to-day operations, leading, mentoring, training, and educating the engineering team. You will also manage the financial aspects of the property’s operation and maintenance expenses, as well as utilities consumption. During pre-opening, you will drive the Technical Services division, including recruitment, process structuring, and compliance with Mandarin Oriental standards. As Director of Engineering, your responsibilities include: Maintaining all buildings, plant, equipment, and areas in proper and safe condition. Implementing “Safe and Sound” procedures in fire, health, safety, security, emergency, and standard operating protocols per group standards. Ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, regulations, and codes. Performing “Emergency Response Team” duties as required. Overseeing activities of the Engineering Management Team. Managing outsourced engineering services and vendors. Participating in strategic planning for the hotel. Developing community involvement initiatives. Implementing preventative maintenance programs in line with group guidelines. Managing the annual CapEX plan and budget for engineering. Overseeing projects related to hotel enhancements, including planning, administration, and financial evaluation. Supporting financial performance, energy management, and contractor selection. Collaborating with HR on recruitment, development, and recognition of staff. Supporting IT & T upgrades, maintenance, and emergency power testing. Training staff on systems such as key card, audiovisual, lighting, and temperature controls. Participating in relevant committees and conducting inspections to maintain standards. Ensuring documentation, certifications, and reports are current and properly stored. Providing technical advice and maintaining standards. Preparing budgets, forecasts, and energy conservation initiatives. Engaging with local authorities to ensure compliance. Promoting safety and security protocols across the hotel. Qualifications for the role include: Experience and Education At least five years in engineering management, preferably in luxury hospitality. Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Industrial, Electrical, Mechanical, or Renewable Energy preferred). Pre-opening and resort experience is advantageous. Technical Skills Proficiency in office software (Word, Excel, Visio, etc.). Expertise in managing HVAC, electrical, plumbing, energy systems, access control, and kitchen equipment. Experience in maintenance management, project coordination, budgeting, and regulatory compliance. Strong leadership and collaboration skills, fluent in English and Spanish.
