Platform Engineer

Job Description: My client is hiring a Platform Engineer to join their seven-person Platform Team, focused on delivering a robust private cloud infrastructure and application platform for intelligence and law enforcement clients worldwide This role involves designing server infrastructure, automating provisioning, optimizing performance, and ensuring security for distributed processing systems Youll write Python scripts, manage storage and networking, and work with both hardware and software to support large-scale data ingestion and processing The team operates on a hybrid model, with in-office days on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in Cape Town, fostering collaboration and innovation Youll travel overseas once or twice a year for two-week onsite deployments, contributing to mission-critical systems that shape global security The company culture emphasizes analytical rigor, continuous learning, and pragmatic innovation, with a casual, supportive environment This position replaces a team member who left, offering a chance to make an immediate impact on a platform trusted by high-stakes clients Join a team that values technical excellence and provides opportunities to tackle complex challenges in IT and information technology jobs Skills & Experience: Proficiency in Python scripting and Linux environments Experience with infrastructure automation tools (e.g., Salt, Puppet, Ansible) Knowledge of server hardware, virtualization (e.g., Proxmox), and network architecture Familiarity with containerization tools (e.g., Docker, Podman; Kubernetes not used) Understanding of information security best practices, including firewalls and encryption Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, Sonarqube, Artifactory) Strong problem-solving, debugging, and incident management skills Knowledge of monitoring tools (e.g., Grafana, ELK Stack) and performance optimization techniques Understanding of software architecture, modular design, and SOLID principles Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective team collaboration Analytical mindset, detail-oriented, and proactive in initiating tasks Enthusiasm for learning and adapting to new technologies Qualification: Bachelors, Honours, or Masters degree in Computer Science, BEng (with Computer Science subjects up to final year), or equivalent; postgraduate degree preferred Relevant experience in platform engineering, infrastructure management, or related roles Contact LIZAAN BUNNING on
