Our Roles in Investment Banking Legal The Investment Banking Legal Group (IB Legal) offers legal advice and transaction execution expertise to the Firm’s Global Banking & Markets - Investment Banking division, including the Capital Solutions Group worldwide. IB Legal's mission is to provide high-quality legal and policy advice related to the firm’s investment banking activities and to support transaction execution while safeguarding Goldman Sachs' interests. Members are involved in nearly every investment banking and capital markets transaction, with responsibilities adapting to different product areas, industries, and regions. The role of IB Legal is dynamic, evolving over time, and will continue to do so in response to Goldman Sachs's changing needs. Your Impact and Responsibilities Serve as a legal advisor to Investment Banking, providing counsel on all matters, including those outside transaction execution. Your judgment and experience will be highly valued, especially in weighing legal, policy, reputational, and commercial considerations. You will often resolve issues under tight deadlines and client sensitivities. Work on a broad range of securities transactions such as equity offerings, debt, municipal securities, loans, structured products, tender offers, and exchange offers. Assist in reviewing and negotiating engagement letters and confidentiality agreements related to Goldman Sachs as a financial advisor on mergers and strategic transactions. Collaborate closely with bankers, other professionals, and IB Legal team members across offices. Work with clients, outside counsel, and other investment banks, advising on transaction structuring, legal and reputational risk assessment, document review, and legal issue resolution. Contribute to policy development, business practices, training, compliance initiatives, and standard procedures. Support new product development by advising on legal and regulatory risks, coordinating with internal teams and outside counsel, and assisting clients in understanding new transactions. Basic Qualifications Qualified lawyer with 5-8 years PQE. Strong grounding in securities and corporate finance law and practice. Relevant experience with a reputable law firm or as in-house counsel. Preferred Qualifications Legal qualification in the US, UK, Singapore, or Hong Kong.
