Electrical Design Engineer

PURPOSE OF ROLE We are seeking a skilled Electrical Design Engineer/Technologist to join our Oil, Gas and Power Engineering team. This is a 100% technical role focused on providing specialist inputs and producing professional, compliant designs that meet all client specifications, industry codes, and standards. You will be responsible for delivering quality electrical engineering outputs on time and within budget while adhering to our internal engineering processes. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills in Electrical Engineering. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS Design and Development Produce professional and compliant engineering designs within allocated hours, on schedule, and within budget Develop concept, basic, and detailed designs according to specifications and requirements Perform technical reviews of outputs from colleagues and address internal/external review comments Identify and apply required codes and standards to ensure technical compliance Provide design integration across disciplines to ensure a cohesive final product Tender and Proposal Support Develop technical specifications and provide accurate inputs for company proposals Review and clarify user requirement specifications (URS) Participate in concept development, feasibility checks, and value engineering Compile technical documentation and adjudicate supplier offers Identify technical and commercial risks during the proposal phase Project Implementation Provide technical support during installation and commissioning phases Assist with site engineering, resolving technical queries, and performing site inspections Support commissioning activities including procedure development and data recording Participate in system/plant performance testing and punch list resolution Contribute to project handover and documentation, including as-built records Process Compliance and Integration Adhere to Lesedi engineering procedures, guidelines, and standards Interface with procurement, finance, SHEQ, and project controls teams Support change management processes and provide input to project schedules Maintain compliance with health and safety requirements Provide guidance to Junior Engineers/Technologists and EITs QUALIFICATION Sc, B.Eng, or B.Tech in Electrical Engineering or equivalent Registration as a Professional Engineer/Technologist EXPERIENCE Minimum of 5 years Electrical Engineering experience in the Industrial, Oil & Gas, Power Generation or Energy Sector in an EPC or EPCM Environment. Minimum of 3 years Electrical Systems Design Experience (Basic Design of Systems with exposure to Detail Designs performed by Electrical OEMs). Greenfields /Brownfields Project Design Life Cycle COMPETENCIES Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of engineering design lifecycle Thorough knowledge of applicable codes and standards in relevant discipline Working knowledge of OHS Act and regulations Understanding of ISO quality systems and principles Technical competence within the applicable knowledge area Good understanding of industrial, oil, gas, and power industries Basic knowledge of contract management and project delivery models Understanding of financial aspects of engineering projects Essential Knowledge Areas: LV Switchgear and Reticulation Systems MV Switchgear and Reticulation Systems MV/LV Generators MV/LV Motors (Electrical machines in general) MV / LV Transformers Detailed Electrical cable sizing Electrical equipment sizing, i.e CBs, etc Protection grading or discrimination Type 1 and type 2 co-ordination Detailed electrical system studies, using e.g. ETAP, DigSilent, Easy Power Good knowledge of codes and standards applicable to LV design (SANS, IEC) Field Design of LV and MV Electrical Reticulation Systems Beneficial Knowledge Areas Commissioning of LV and MV Systems Site Engineering (construction support and site inspections of Electrical Installations) Basic understanding of HV System Design and Power Evacuation Skills: Strong computer literacy (MS Office suite and project management tools) Excellent technical problem-solving abilities Clear communication skills (both verbal and written) High degree of analytical thinking Strong organizational and administrative capabilities Technical adjudication and reporting skills Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications Behaviours: Methodical and detail-oriented approach to work Ability to organize and effectively prioritize workload Strong team player with good interpersonal skills Professional and ethical conduct Adaptable and flexible in dynamic project environments Hard-working with ability to function in challenging environments Commitment to Lesedi values and quality standards Ability to manage conflict effectively Good emotional intelligence Should you not hear from us within 21 days of the closing of the advert, kindly regard your application to have been unsuccessful.
