Chair of the Board of Trustees – Forever Manchester – Manchester Maxwell Bond have exclusively partnered with Forever Manchester to help with this fantastic role for this brilliant charity. Chair of the Board of Trustees Role Purpose To provide effective governance of Forever Manchester (FM) and accept the ultimate legal authority in all its dealings. - Ensure compliance with FM’s Articles of Association - Ensure accountability in accordance with the law and stakeholders - Ensure proper fiscal oversight - Ensure proper effective and regulated award-making Chair Main Responsibilities - To chair Board meetings and other sub-committee meetings as required and to ensure that the Board discharges its business effectively and fulfills its responsibilities for governance - Ensure that the Board operates within FM’s charitable purposes and powers and provides clear strategic direction in line with its mission - To uphold the highest standards of governance and transparency - To assess the suitability of new members for the Board and oversee recruitment, induction, and the on-going mentoring of new members with the Chief Executive - To ensure that Trustees are involved and motivated, and that the views of all Trustees are sought at meetings - To ensure that Trustees work together effectively as a team and fulfill their commitments - To ensure that Trustees maintain a strategic focus Other Responsibilities Staff: - To support the Chief Executive and evaluate his/her performance - To develop and maintain good relations with senior staff and be available to support them - To promote good working relationships between the Trustees and staff team Development: - To seek new donors and financial support wherever possible - To support the team and Trustees where appropriate in maintaining and growing relationships with leading donors and stakeholders - To show a commitment to philanthropy including considering personal giving to FM taking into account their circumstances and other philanthropic commitments (an expectation of all Trustees) Public Role - To speak in public on FM’s behalf - To be a consistent and committed advocate of FM - To represent FM at events and other functions and promote FM’s cause - To investigate complaints not dealt with by the Chief Executive as set out in the complaints procedure National Role - To be aware of the wider development of community foundations in the United Kingdom and maintain relationships, wherever possible, with other Chairs and with the community foundation network Commitment Initial 3 (three) year tenure with an opportunity to extend for a further period of 3 (three) years. On average we anticipate half a day per month commitment Chair of the Board of Trustees The Ideal Person Skills & Knowledge Essential: - Able to lead the Trustees on strategic planning, collective decision making and ensuring the effective governance of Forever Manchester - Experience of chairing a board, partnership or high-level committee and running such meetings effectively - Experience of performance management - Able to support and advise the Chief Executive and Senior Leadership Team - Able to speak at events and represent FM externally - Capable of earning the confidence of donors and partners Desirable: - An understanding of social and economic issues in Greater Manchester - Track record of attracting charitable donations and/or new business development Aptitude Essential: - A commitment to the promotion of philanthropy - A commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion - To be inquisitive about the work of FM and the communities it serves, and a commitment to learn about the roles and responsibilities of the FM staff team - Flexibility and time to give to the role - Willingness to advocate for FM within own networks and make introductions Desirable: - Familiarity with place based models of working - Cross sector understanding covering business, charities and public bodies - Have an awareness of the type of organisations and activity that Forever Manchester supports If you match the above and you would love to get involved with Forever Manchester, please apply immediately.
