Job Description
The Business Head will take full ownership of the business unit's operations, growth, and profitability. This individual will lead the development and execution of the business strategy, oversee day-to-day operations, manage cross-functional teams, and drive the organization’s growth objectives. The role demands exceptional leadership capabilities, strong business acumen, and the ability to navigate challenges in a dynamic business environment. The Business Head will work closely with senior leadership to align the business unit's performance with the overall corporate goals.Business Head would be responsible for designing and implementing sales and marketing strategies that drive outstanding ROI and sales growth while maintaining bottom line profitability. The Business Head would be responsible for launching Premium plumbing and drainage products in projects and retail channels. Products would include multilayer pipes and fittings, silent drainage and concealed cisterns which would require high techno-commercial and concept selling skills. The business head would be responsible for defining and developing detailed route-to-market and go-to-market strategies for launching new products. Market for Premium products is still in its infancy stage so the business head would be responsible for selling these products through market creation. In its infancy, the market doesn’t have pre-defined techno-commercial norms and there is a clear opportunity for new entrants to have its own unique value proposition. The business head would be responsible for developing such propositions and positioning the brand to become the dominant market leader with a sustainable competitive advantage. Key Responsibilities: 1 . Strategic Planning & Execution: ● Business Strategy Development: o Lead the development of the business unit’s vision, mission, and strategic o bjectives in alignment with the company's overall goals. o Define long-term business strategies, goals, and initiatives focused on market e xpansion, competitive advantage, and customer satisfaction. o Analyze market trends, customer insights, and competitors to continuously refine s trategies and capitalize on emerging opportunities. ● Execution & Monitoring: o Oversee the implementation of strategic initiatives and ensure that they are e xecuted effectively and within defined timelines. o Monitor business performance metrics, key performance indicators (KPIs), and d eliverables to ensure success. o Drive innovation by identifying areas where the business can differentiate itself i n the market. 2 . Financial Management (P&L Ownership): ● Profitability and Budgeting: o Manage the Profit and Loss (P&L) for the business unit, ensuring financial p erformance meets or exceeds targets. o Establish financial goals and manage the business budget, ensuring cost control w hile optimizing revenue streams. o Lead financial forecasting, budgeting, and financial analysis, providing t ransparent reporting to executive management. ● Revenue Generation: o Lead the effort in driving top-line growth by identifying new revenue streams, e nhancing existing ones, and expanding market share. o Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to develop pricing strategies, sales g oals, and promotional activities. o Analyze financial data to determine areas of profitability improvement and e fficiency gains. 3 . Operational Leadership: ● Operational Efficiency: o Ensure smooth and efficient day-to-day operations of the business unit, adhering t o organizational policies, procedures, and quality standards. o Oversee the supply chain, manufacturing, service delivery, or operational f unctions, depending on the business sector. o Identify and implement process improvements, cost-saving initiatives, and o perational best practices. ● Technology & Systems Optimization: o Drive the adoption of technology solutions to enhance business operations, data m anagement, and customer engagement. o Oversee the integration of new tools, platforms, or systems into the business u nit’s workflow to increase productivity and accuracy. 4 . Team Leadership & People Management: ● Talent Management & Development: o Lead, inspire, and motivate a high-performing team, ensuring a culture of c ollaboration, innovation, and accountability. o Develop and implement strategies for talent acquisition, retention, and p rofessional development. o Foster leadership at all levels within the business unit and create succession p lans to ensure future leadership continuity. ● Performance Management: o Set clear goals for team members, monitor performance, provide feedback, and i mplement developmental programs. o Conduct regular performance appraisals and provide mentorship to senior l eaders and managers in the business unit. 5 . Customer & Stakeholder Relationship Management: ● Client Relationship: o Develop and nurture relationships with key clients, customers, and strategic p artners, ensuring high customer satisfaction. o Address client concerns, resolve issues promptly, and ensure alignment between c ustomer expectations and the organization’s deliverables. o Represent the company in high-level discussions with clients and partners to b uild trust and loyalty. ● Stakeholder Engagement: o Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. o Communicate regularly with the Director on the business unit’s performance, c hallenges, and growth opportunities. & nbsp;6 . Business Development & Market Expansion: ● Market Penetration & Growth: o Identify and evaluate new markets, geographies, and customer segments for b usiness expansion. o Lead efforts to enter new markets, acquire new customers, and drive sustained g rowth in existing markets. o Cultivate partnerships, joint ventures, and collaborations to drive business d evelopment. ● Sales & Marketing Leadership: o Work closely with the marketing and sales teams to develop go-to-market s trategies, lead generation activities, and promotional campaigns. o Ensure alignment between marketing efforts and business goals to maximize r evenue opportunities. o Implement strategies to strengthen brand positioning and market presence. 7 . Risk Management & Compliance: ● Risk Mitigation: I dentify and mitigate potential risks (financial, operational, regulatory) that may i mpact the business unit’s performance. o Implement policies and practices to ensure the business complies with legal, r egulatory, and corporate standards. o Ensure risk management strategies are embedded within the business processes a nd monitor risk exposure. ● Crisis Management: o Lead the business unit through challenges and crises, ensuring timely responses t o operational, financial, or market challenges. o Develop contingency plans and maintain business continuity strategies to m inimize disruption 8 . Product Management: ○ Manage product life cycle and road map by working closely with suppliers and p roduction team to calibrate product according to market’s needs. ○ Develop a clear product position for sales team and market and position the p roduct accordingly in the market. & nbsp;& nbsp;R equired Qualifications and Skills: E ducation: ● Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, or a related field is r equired. ● MBA or an advanced degree from a reputed institution is preferred. E xperience: ● 20 years of experience in business leadership roles with at least 5 years at a senior m anagement level. ● Proven experience in managing business units with P&L responsibility, financial m anagement, and driving business growth. ● Extensive experience in team leadership, strategic decision-making, and operational e xcellence. ● Prior experience in the Building Materials Industry is highly desirable.
