In this role, you will provide expert nutritional care for our patients using acquired professional knowledge and exercise independent decision making in the assessment, diagnosis, and development of a plan of care for your patients. You will collaborate and consult with supervising physicians and contribute to outstanding patient care! Continuing education opportunities will be available to you as well as opportunities to participate in focus groups that influence patient and practice experience as well as advancing your role in the practice throughout the year.

Physicians East, PA is a multi-specialty, multi-campus group based out of Greenville, NC offering a wide range of specialties. In addition to primary care the practice offers pulmonary and critical care medicine, rheumatology, dermatology, oncology, endocrinology, cardiology, obstetrics and gynecology, gastroenterology, surgery, urology, and urgent care. Our 102 providers and over 600 employees provide services for thousands of patients in a 29-county region. Our specialists are on staff at ECU Health, a 900+ bed, level one trauma center and the primary teaching hospital for the East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine (ECU-BSOM).

What You Will Do

  1. Provide nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy integrated with the patient's medical goals.
  1. Evaluate, interpret, monitor and document the nutritional status and nutritional needs of patients using established standards of care and practice guidelines.

  1. Identify and provide age-specific nutrition counseling to meet the cultural needs of the patients and their families.

  1. Develop, review, update and implement educational materials to meet the needs of patients and professionals.

  1. Function as an integral member of the clinical interdisciplinary team.

  1. Maintain registered dietitian (RD) status including continuing professional education.

  1. Precept dietetic interns and provide on the job training for newly hired clinical staff.

  1. Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.

  1. Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.

  1. Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.

  1. Utilizes practice guidelines and standardized procedures in collaboration with the treating physician(s) in providing care to patients.

Candidate requirements

  • Degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, Nutritional Sciences, Human Nutrition, or comparable major.

  • Successful completion of coordinated program or dietetic internship or not less than 900 hours under the supervision of a Registered Dietitian.

  • Licensed dietitian/nutritionist (LDN) by the NC Board of Dietetics and Nutrition or equivalent.

  • Must be able to work independently (under indirect supervision).

  • Have at least one year of post-graduate experience in field.

  • Must have experience and knowledge of an EMR system, voice dictation (Dragon) and strong documentation skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure with time constraints.

  • Can use strong clinical judgment to determine when a supervising physician should be consulted.

  • Flexible and adaptable with a focus on not turning any patient away before exhausting all reasonable options.

  • Value working in a team-oriented, patient-centric culture.

The ideal candidate will also:

  • Be confident in clinical decision-making and autonomous in providing care to patients in a fast-paced clinical practice setting.

  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and be proactive in discussing case management.

  • Possess excellent time management and have ability to work well with patients and their families, collaborating/supervising physicians, facility staff and leadership.

  • Display a professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations for patients and families, maintaining strict confidentiality in all times.

  • Demonstrate a strong sense of team commitment, which includes meeting deadlines, punctuality and excellent follow-through and feedback.
