Job Description

Learns, assists, and performs basic preparation, paint and varnish techniques in the fabrication of boats, primarily on exterior boat surface, but may include interior (rough) surfaces. Work is performed under close supervision of the team leader or manager.


Essential Duties:

1. Prepares wood, fiberglass, metal, or other surfaces for painting and varnishing.

2. Tape or otherwise protect surrounding surfaces such as decks, hardware, windows, from overspray during painting.

3. Understands the requirements for varnish prepping and sealing and the products utilized.

4. Cleans, sands, and smooth surfaces, using appropriate tools, such as scrapers, sandpaper, steel wool, or chemicals.

5. Prepares paint and varnish for application to surfaces.

6. Applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel or lacquer, as appropriate, to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces, trimmings and fixtures of boats.

7. Cleans brushes and work area, using solvent or soap and water.

8. Follow defined instructions and procedures in performance of tasks.

9. Follow prescribed safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe, clean work area.

10. All work to be performed and manufactured to Hinckley Company quality standards.

11. Perform other related duties as necessary and assigned.



Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED) required.
  • Woods coursework preferred.
  • Knowledge and operation of basic power tools; DA and block sanders
  • Zero (0) to six (6) months' experience, which may be attained on-the-job or by company training.


Physical Requirements:

  • Lift and carry over 5 lbs. and up to 25 lbs. on a frequent basis (over 40% and up to 70%)
  • Requires frequently lifting or moving light weight material.
  • Frequent mental and visual attention on an intermittent basis.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, kneel, lift, push, and pull.
  • Requires working under disagreeable conditions on a frequent basis where elements such as dust, dirt, heat, fumes, cold, vibration, noise, water or chemicals may be present.
