Summary: The Director of Pharmacy will provide leadership and direction for all retail pharmacy services at Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center (SPHRC). Oversee all pharmacy operations and strategies for business growth and service development. Provides direction and leadership to pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy cashiers and others providing care to patients. The scope of patients varies from adult to pediatrics and includes many areas.


Essential Job Functions:

• Coordinate the identification, communication and resolution of problems relating to daily activities of the retail pharmacy operations.

• Perform regular audits and shadow pharmacy employees in order to prioritize daily workflow and ensure staff comprehension and execution of pharmacy guidelines and policies.

• Identify need for staff education and competency. Coordinate planning and execution of staff development programs and competency assessment.

• Develop and maintain productivity and quality metrics and utilize the date to continuously monitor current state and recommend process improvements as necessary.

• Serve as a preceptor for pharmacy students and residents.

• Serve as the liaison between the acute care clinical pharmacist within the organization to ensure that the retail pharmacy services are an integrated extension of patient care.

• Provide information and increase market share for pharmacy by providing outstanding patient customer service.

• Oversees and manages drug pricing, medication reimbursement and the retail pharmacy marketplace.

• Reviews and updates all acute/retail pharmacy procedures and processes as necessary.

• Develop and maintain efficient workflows within the acute/retail pharmacy.

• Identify service gaps and implement mitigation strategies to improve service.

• Identify the most cost-effective systems for medication packaging and prescription delivery logistics.

• Ensure that the pharmacy is following all state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to the pharmacy.

• Actively participate in the marketing and promotional strategies for the pharmacy.

• Continually contribute to the success of SPHRC through support of the strategic plan pillars, which are service, quality, finance, people, and growth.

• Ensure the consideration of the role of cultural, social, and behavioral factors in the accessibility, availability, acceptability and delivery of pharmacy information and services.

• Ensure all required licensing, certification and/or education requirements for assigned staff members are completed and up-to-date.

• Perform other functions as required to fulfill the expectations of the Director of Pharmacy.

Requirements:

Minimum Required Education/Experience: Graduation from an accredited College of Pharmacy with a Bachelor's or PharmD degree. Preferred ASHP Accredited PGY1 Practice/Community and PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency training program. At least five years of acute/retail pharmacy patient care and orders management experience or completion of a PGY2 residency training program or combination of ambulatory patient care and residency training.


Pre-Employment Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

• Knowledge and skills related to computerized pharmacy systems, special prescription delivery systems, third party payor and fiscal reimbursement knowledge related to ambulatory care practices.

• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

• Advanced knowledge in financial management; knowledge of practices and procedures for planning and formulating budgets and monitoring related expenses.

• Knowledge of principles and practices of retail pharmacy operations.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with the public, other agencies, employees and administration.

• Ability to react to frequent changes in duties and volume of work.


Note: An acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted.


Necessary Special Requirements: Must obtain annual flu vaccination and any job-specific immunizations. Required to submit to a tuberculosis screening process.


Licenses or Certificates: Active State of Colorado pharmacist license.


Unusual Demands: Work is subject to recurring and inflexible deadlines and frequent interruptions.
