Statement of Work Details

Supports the planning and execution of research experiments in the context of the laboratory's overall research program.

Supports laboratory staff on research projects and techniques.

Maintains laboratory equipment and the training of others in their use.

Assists in maintaining adequate space and facilities for ongoing and projected research studies.

Evaluates, analyzes and interprets research data, communicates results and methods in reports, presentations, and manuscripts.

Coordinates with junior staff to modify research protocols.

Presents research at national scientific meetings and symposia.

Provides interpretation of results, guidance, and scientific support to the management team.

Mentors junior level scientists.

  • Provide programming support for research laboratories having a multi-platform (Unix and windows) environment. 4
  • Install, configure, maintain, and secure multi-platform servers and clients with the assistance of the NIA IT staff. 5
  • Maintain scripts for automated data transfer from a variety of imaging facilities.
  • Maintain the LBN MRI and PET image archive.
  • Coordinate and maintain the initial steps of image processing for MRI and PET images.
  • Maintain analysis pipelines and scripts in MATLAB and Python programming environments to facilitate analysis of longitudinal neuroimages.
  • Assist in the maintenance and development of existing and new image analysis algorithms.
  • Work as part of a scientific team to promote analysis and publication of MRI and PET data.
  • Facilitate and maintain outside data collaborations - This includes: the initial understanding of the outside collaborators proposed project(s) and data needs; packaging and transferring data; scheduling regular update meetings; and offering feedback on analyses and interpretation.
  • Serve as a representative for the IT needs of BABS and LBN to the NIA IT department, and contribute expertise as needed for projects within LBN.
  • Develop novel analyses and participate in development of manuscripts related to longitudinal studies of age- and disease-related changes in structural and functional neuroimaging, including resting state functional MR, DTI, and PET measures of amyloid plaque and tau pathology. As the majority of the programs required for image transfer, maintenance of the imaging archive, and initial steps of image processing are now in place, it is anticipated that approximately 80% effort will be devoted to research activities related to novel image analysis and development of manuscripts related to brain aging and early markers of cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease.
