Job Description

Position Summary: (required)

The Programming Coordinator supports the Programming teams on the day-to-day scheduling, and management of our content. Whether for specific sports categories or with our Video on Demand (VOD) and digital networks, this person supports each team’s charge in making major media investments, works collaboratively across all ESPN departments, and with external partners to fulfill contracts and drive company and team priorities including maximizing audience and revenue.

The Programming department currently has 3 Programming Coordinator positions open in the following groups: NBA/WNBA/Combat, Rackets/Golf/Motor Sports, and VOD.

Responsibilities for VOD and Digital Networks Coordinator:


  • Manage the scheduling and maintenance of the Video On Demand offering and digital networks, and support all key points in the operational workflow
  • Work closely with the Content Strategy management team to assist in strategic planning of the Video On Demand offering across all networks with a primary focus on all non-live event content (ESPN Films, ESPN Original Content, ESPN+ Studio Shows, and the ESPN+ archive) including the standard affiliate offering, authenticated VOD, and ESPN+
  • Help facilitate internal collaboration with multiple departments including Affiliate, Ops, Transmission, Technology, Editorial, Product, Marketing, and assist in all communication with ESPN’s Sister Networks at TWDC
  • Handle scheduling and database management work for assigned networks/platforms, specifically all non-live event content
  • Ensure timely and effective communication of programming information to the Content Scheduling and Strategy Team and across departments as needed
  • Prepare internal and external presentations in support of the VOD business
  • QA the VOD content offering on all platforms, and supply feedback
  • Works as a member of the Programming Department at large to contribute to the overall scheduling strategy for the company across platforms. Proactively contribute innovative ideas to continue to grow our businesses


Responsibilities for Sport Specific Coordinator:


  • Work with teams management to assist in strategic scheduling of all assigned programming, including the creation and maintenance of sport or program-specific schedules
  • Handle NCS/CS work for assigned sport categories, including ratings, scheduling, APF’s, etc. and scheduling across our linear networks and digital networks/platforms, including ESPN+
  • Work with internal and external partners to fulfill requests, supply information and manage communication as needed
  • Supply internal stakeholders and senior management with detailed information including event prep materials, program and ratings information
  • Work as a member of the Programming Department at large to contribute to the overall scheduling strategy for the company across platforms and networks, including related content on ESPN Deportes
  • Create presentations, internal documents, and assist in negotiation prep work as assigned
  • Proactively contribute innovative ideas to continue to grow our business


Qualifications: (required)


  • Strong overall sports knowledge
  • Proficient computer skills, emphasis on Microsoft Office suite and current social media platforms
  • General knowledge of the sports media industry
  • Strong communication skills
  • Must be highly organized, efficient, self-motivated, exhibit excellent time management skills and able to work on multiple tasks at the same time


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience in a professional work setting
  • Work experience in the sports media industry, television programming and/or college athletics
  • General familiarity with reading and comprehending legal contracts
  • General familiarity with TV and digital audience measurement
  • General familiarity with media and footage rights
  • Knowledge of NCS/CS system a plus


Required Education (required)


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in communications, journalism, business, sports management or a related field
