Job Description
Agent – Civil Engineering (Outside IR35) Location: Plymouth Contract Type: 12-Month Contract IR35 Status: Outside IR35 Start Date: ASAP Role Purpose We are seeking an experienced Agent to join our delivery team on a major infrastructure project in the South West . This role offers the opportunity to take a key leadership position within one of the UK’s most complex and challenging construction programmes, overseeing site-level delivery and ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards of quality. Key Responsibilities Provide strong leadership and management in a client-facing capacity , promoting a culture focused on safety, quality and collaboration. Coordinate and manage subcontractor activities , chairing regular progress and coordination meetings. Report to senior leadership across multiple project and functional teams. Liaise with site teams and cross-functional departments to ensure smooth delivery of works. Identify and manage project risks and opportunities , maintaining an accurate risk register. Review drawings and technical documentation , raising TQs, RFIs or NCRs where required. Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety legislation , company procedures and site governance requirements. Oversee Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) , RAMS , permits to work , and site licence control measures. Support training and competency development for supervisors, subcontractors, and site teams. Prepare and monitor detailed schedules and programmes of work using tools such as Aphex or Primavera P6. Lead H&S and progress meetings , ensuring effective communication and follow-up. Manage handover documentation and ensure all project records are completed to the required standard. Knowledge, Skills & Experience Essential: Minimum 5 years’ site experience in civil engineering, including at least 2 years in a Senior Engineer or Agent position. Strong leadership, coordination and communication skills. Proven track record managing multidisciplinary construction activities. Proficient with MS Office and general IT systems. Desirable: Experience with BIM / Digital tools (Autodesk, Bentley). Scheduling experience in Aphex, P6 , or similar platforms. Understanding of Behavioural Safety / Human Performance principles. Qualifications Essential: Degree, HNC or HND in Civil Engineering (or equivalent experience). Valid CSCS card . Desirable: Chartered or working toward chartership (ICE / IStructE / CIOB). Project Management training (APM, PRINCE2 or equivalent). SMSTS / IOSH certification. Additional site competencies such as Temporary Works Coordinator , Lifting Appointed Person , or Confined Spaces (Medium) .
