Design Manager

Pre-Construction Design Manager - City of London Projects: Student Accommodation / Multi-Unit Residential An established main contractor is looking for an experienced Pre-Construction Design Manager to lead the design and coordination and play a key role in the early-stage development and delivery of a major city project. You’ll take ownership of all design and coordination activities through the pre-construction phase from RIBA stage 2 to stage 4. This includes managing design consultants and specialist subcontractors, oversee technical submissions, and ensure all design deliverables meet programme, quality, and compliance targets. Key Responsibilities: Coordinate design from Stage 2–4, agreeing scopes and appointing consultants Lead Gateway 2 submissions and manage planning condition discharge Develop and maintain design programmes, risk registers, and information release schedules Liaise with TfL, London Underground, local authorities, and neighbouring parties Support procurement and tender reviews alongside the commercial team Oversee surveys, site investigations, and demolition contractor appointments Contribute to construction logistics, quality management, and BSA compliance processes Requirements: Proven experience as a Design Manager or Pre-Construction Design Manager Strong background in student accommodation or multi-unit residential projects Solid understanding of RIBA stages, construction methodologies, and regulatory standards Experience working within a main contractors This is a great opportunity to join a reputable contractor delivering high-profile London schemes.
