Grant Writer - Summary
Reporting to the Development Manager, the Grant Writer collaborates with the development staff, program staff, and volunteer committees to lead the team on implementation and execution of an aggressive fundraising grants program, including but not limited to researching grant opportunities, writing proposals, amassing all supporting documentation, working with other organizations/departments within HOPE Services who will be the recipients of any funds received, following up with the grantors, and manage the grant tracking process. The Grant Writer will work closely with the Leadership Team to find grant opportunities that support HOPE Services' grant writing program which makes up a major source of income for the Development Department.
This position will act as a member of the Development Team and will support team efforts around special events, data management, and other projects as assigned.
Grant Writer - Principle Responsibilities
A) Serves as a member of development staff and is actively responsible for meeting logistical and funding objectives for HOPE's grants program.
B) Works with CEO and Development Manager to create strategic approaches to all grant proposal efforts.
C) Researches grant opportunities that match the organization's mission and programs. Provides research briefings to Manager and CEO and makes recommendations about prospects.
D) Develops timeline for all aspects of grant submission and reporting efforts with Development and Senior staff; Requests relevant information, feedback, staff support for grant tasks as necessary.
E) Writes clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals that make a strong case funding.
F) Submits all proposals and reports to funders in a timely, professional manner.
G) Works with Manager to provide progress reports on proposals that are submitted, pending, or declined for Leadership Team meetings.
H) Attending meetings that pertain to requests for proposals as required.
I) Generally, supports the goals of the Development Team including but not limited to meetings and fundraising events.
J) Other duties as assigned.
Grant Writer - Minimum Qualifications:
Must be personable and professional, impeccably organized, with excellent oral and written communication skills required. Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects concurrently. Excellent writing skills with ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals that make a strong case funding. Excellent research skills and familiarity with grant resources and submission strategies. Familiarity with local and national foundations that support people with disabilities preferred. A demonstrated ability to work well with a diverse group of stakeholders, including but not limited to, funders, volunteers, staff, clients and community members. At least 4 years experience working in fund development/fundraising for nonprofit organizations, with an emphasis on grant writing preferred. Computer competence in Microsoft and database software required. Bachelor's degree required, preferably in English, journalism or communications.
Long periods of sitting. Use of computer, time spent on the telephone and in meetings. Travel to offsite locations, exposure to outdoor conditions. Some weekend and evening work hours.
