Job Description

The Director of Development is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing fundraising and relations with students and alumni families, supporters, and prospective supporters. The Director of Development will work closely with the Executive Director to address all development and fundraising activities.



    • Update and monitor the annual development calendar to ensure year-round engagement and stewardship of donors

    • Work with the Executive Director to identify families' and other donors' corporate matching and related programs

    • Develop or oversee social media and other donor outreach campaigns

    • Prepare backgrounders on donors and prospective donors

    • With ED, conduct outreach and meet with supporters and prospective donors

    • Monitor and ensure follow up with donors and supporters

    • Identify and evaluate prospective supporters

    • Maintain relationships with supporters and prospective supporters

    • Cultivate donors and prospective for future gifts

    • Steward donors

    • Create, publish and distribute annual Impact Report

    • Organize and implement Annual Appeal and Giving Tuesday campaigns

  • EVENTS - FHR runs two fundraising events annually, a gala in the fall and golf tournament in the spring. The gala is parent-led, with live and online auctions. We contemplate organizing alumni/friend events to build community spirit.

    • Assume lead role planning and executing all events

    • Manage event logistical details

    • Coordinate volunteers, venue personnel, service providers (auctioneer, A/V, etc.) supporters, sponsors, and attendees

    • Lead/support solicitation of auction items

    • Source auction items, principally consignment items

    • Manage event software (Greater Giving) that registers participants, conducts online auction, tracks auction bids, generates tax receipts, and collects and transfers payments

    • Create event communications such as save-the-dates, invitations, e-blasts, working with volunteers and professionals as needed

    • Organize auction procurement efforts, working with procurement team, prepare auction materials including catalog

    • Record and track event data and constituent information, including budget, registration lists and results

    • Coordinate post-event thank you notes and tax receipts


    • Track grantwriting and report calendar

    • Support ED and grantwriter preparing grants

    • Conduct grantor research using Foundation Directory Online

    • Pursue grants to support general or school operations

    o Develop and implement planned giving program

  • DEVELOPMENT PLAN - Develop and implement annual Development Plan and update
    multi-year Development Plan.

    Create and implement new initiatives such as:

    • Alumni and community events (in cooperation with current efforts, which include alumni picnic, alumni activities such as bowling, alumni panel, and alumni parent panel)

    • Peer-to-peer fundraising campaign

    • Sponsored bike-a-thon

    • Young professionals support groups

    • Alumni or parent workshops on topics of interest

    • Other sponsored events (cooking, mixology)


    • Manage data entry (

    • Maintain email and other distribution channels (Constant Contact)

    • Generate tax receipts and acknowledgement letters

    • Attend Development Committee meetings

    • Attend Board meetings as requested by the ED

    • Work with ED to develop outreach initiatives

    • Keep ED informed of principal issues and actions concerning development and fundraising

    • Stay up to date on fundraising techniques and trends

  • Weingarten Children's Center (WCC), located in Redwood City, CA, a school and speech therapy clinic for children ages 0 - 6 with the goal that they succeed in mainstream general education classrooms by the first grade

  • BabyTalk Teleintervention Program provides one-on-one speech therapy via videolink to families of children ages 0 -3 throughout California

  • TeachLSL offers distance learning and therapy to children ages 3 - 5 in California and Nevada who live beyond commuting distance to WCC

  • Talk2Me is developing digital distance learning modules to teach parents of children ages 0 - 3 to teach listening and spoken language to their children, which will be complemented by in-person coaching
