Function & Position Summary


Global Supply Chain is responsible for the distribution of all commercial products to our patients across the globe.


The newly created Global Trade Compliance function will ensure that we embrace compliance and quality in Distributor Operations management and in the management of all cross border shipments, which will enable Global Supply Chain to deliver on Alexion’s mission of providing hope to patients and families affected by rare diseases. The function will execute on this by proactively setting clear, compliant and scalable global operating procedures for the movement and distribution of products/materials while operating to the highest standards of ethics and integrity, allowing us to build trust with patients and their families.


This position will work independently to lead Alexion’s Global Distributor Operations Management, ensuring that the company has a world class Distributor Operations Management process in place, with clear operating procedures which are kept up to date as the business continuously evolves and develops to meet the needs of our patients. The successful candidate will drive continuous improvement in performance and execution within our global distributor network ensuring that the network operates in accordance with the highest standards of ethics and integrity.          




Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Lead the management and execution of all Global Distributor Operations Management activity within Alexion Pharmaceuticals. 
  • Drive the creation of a strategic roadmap for Global Distributor Operations Management activity which ensures that there is a proactive approach in place to develop the optimal & compliant distribution solutions for our patients. 
  • Lead the business engagement with Commercial Operations in regard to Distributor Operations Management
  • Develop, continuously improve, and implement standardized, Global Distributor Operations Management processes, policies, procedures, and manuals addressing compliance with operating procedures, laws and regulations applicable to Alexion Distributor Operations Management activities.
  • Provide guidance to Alexion Global Supply Chain, Commercial Operations, Global Tax, Finance and other departments within Alexion on Distributor Operations Management issues and queries based on Commercial or Quality agreement.
  • Lead the RFP, selection process and the subsequent effective onboarding of new Distributors, setting the appropriate operating procedures and key performance targets.
  • Manage Distributor inventory levels to ensure that there is the optimal level of inventory held at our global distributors.
  • Drive execution of distributor inventory goals which effectively balance demand, safety stock targets and patient needs.
  • Perform compliance checks on Distributor Operations day-to-day transactions in accordance with Alexion Global Operations policies and procedures based on commercial agreement.  Address any deficiencies and remediate as appropriate.
  • Drive a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement in Alexion’s Distributor Operations network, which enables the speedy proliferation of world class performance across geographies.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and improve Distributor Operations processes.  Work with the Commercial Operations to implement potential improvements. 
  • Proactively identify changes in internal and external business conditions which will impact upon the global distribution model and quickly ensure that required changes are put in place.   
  • Partner with Global Tax, Commercial, Clinical and other key Corporate leaders to ensure that Alexion’s Distributor Operations management is aligned to the Alexion’s operating principles.
  • Drive the strategic execution of multiple programs.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to ensure that Alexion’s Distributor Operations are enabling the business while operating to the highest standards of compliance and integrity.
  • Proactively monitor and benchmark Alexion’s distributor performance versus current industry standards, trends and practices.


Required Experience / Qualifications


  • 12+ years of experience in a similar or related role.
  • Substantial prior experience and technical expertise in Global Pharmaceutical Supply Chain.
  • Ability to execute on multiple strategic programs.
  • Past experience in leading third party performance incuding the effective leadership of expectations and communications across a broad stakeholder base.
  • Strong leadership, presentation, and communication skills with proven ability to influence at executive level.
  • Proven experience at a global scale, playing a significant role in the leadership of cutting edge performance.
  • Previous experience in the technology area - providing software solutions, ERP and automation of cross functional processes.
  • Excellent understanding of commercial business processes, process improvements and automation
  • Passionate, innovative, best practice focus to deliver best in class service to our patients.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to effective lead and manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Experience with SAP and the use of technology solutions to manage global distributors.
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross functional global teams with a strong working knowledge of supply chain management
  • Proven track record at Director level.
  • Knowledge of quality and regulatory issues as they relate to biotechnology supply chain .
  • BA/BS Degree & additional post graduate qualification.
